Beyond expectations we had 10’s of Short-toed Eagles each day; most of them giving distant views, but on a few occasions showing farely well. Other raptors included several Booted Eagles, Goshawk and good numbers of Long-legged Buzzard.
We, Ronan and Henri Felix, Rienk Geene and Erik Sanders (last two on behalf of Ketupa-Travel) stayed three nights at Duruk-Hotel in Akseki, which is a very fine hotel. The standards were as expected, good breakfast and silent and clean rooms with plenty of warm water. We used the hotel as basis for our various trips, merely to find and explore what might be good locations to find the enigmatic “ketupa” Brown Fish-Owl!
On our way to Oymapinar, we found this fine pond just outside Manavgat 1 km before the official entrance to the Oymapinar Baraji. We found several Little and Baillons Crakes, Squacco Herons, Osprey, Short-toed Larks, Red-throated Pipits and good numbers of Swallows.
Main goal of this trip with Ketupa Travel ( http://www.ketupa-travel.nl ) was to find Brown Fishowl (Ketupa zeynolensis) in this part of Turkey at as much locations as possible. We managed to find birds at three different spots. Therefore we searched in the early mornings and late evenings at sites we thought most suitable for this species; sometimes we got handy tips from locals who said to know this species (and I think they do).
The pictures included are taken from a touristic boat at Oymapinar during day time.
